I was at the new location and it's looking great. Most of the painting is done, walls are up, lighting about done, and the metal rail for the punching/kicking bags is up. Flooring and a bit of tidying up and we're set to train! Looks like we are on schedule. Tomorrow night everything will be moved from the old location to the new. Get ready for the first class at our new home!
I apologize for not having the photos up. At the moment I don't have access to the camera that I used to take them.
:::Note on Shadowboxing:::
In the beginner class today, I emphasized the importance of shadowboxing. It is a crucial part of fight training. Some of the benefits you get from it include:
-Center of balance
-Reflexes
-Technique/form
-Concentration/focus
-Speed
-Economy of motion (the most efficient way of throwing a technique)
-Relaxation
-Flexibility
This is also the time when you formulate fight tactics and strategies.
Shadowboxing can can be done anywhere. Do it in front of the mirrors at home, in the showers, in your room, while you're walking, while you're running - be creative. Take advantage of this training tool and I promise your productivity will increase greatly. Believe me and try it.
Tips for Effective Shadowboxing
-punching at eye level
-using hips and legs to generate power
-always be aware of your center of balance, remain in fighting stance and always be grounded
-keep mind relaxed and "feel" it out
-repetition is the mother of all skill; chose a technique you would like to master and throw it over and over and over again
-strive to improve your technique and form every time you throw; use a mirror to help you with this
-remember to pivot
-stay grounded (do not let your feet leave the ground unless you are stepping to move or are kicking. 2 feet simultaneously should never leave the ground.)
-stay in control of yourself; be conscience of what, why and, how you are throwing your techniques
